Dreamy Fruit Salad Dessert

Years ago, when my two oldest sons were little, I would make fruit salad for their birthday parties and family get-togethers. They were always a favorite side dish with my guests. When I made this dessert, it brought back many good memories.
The grapes are one of my favorite fruits to add to this recipe. They burst in your mouth. The cream cheese sauce taste is out of this world!

You can use any of your favorite fruit or the fruit in season for the time of year.

Just wash it and toss it in the salad! So simple!

What You Need:

You can use the fruit of your choice, but here is what I used.

-3-5 Nectarines

-2-3 Apples

-24oz. Blueberries

-2-3 Cups Green grapes

-4 Clementine’s ( I added after I mixed the cream cheese mixture in. )

-lime juice from 2 limes

The Cream Cheese Mixture:

-8 oz. Cream Cheese

-5.1 oz. box vanilla pudding (Do not prepare the pudding.) Just pour the powder into the cream cheese mixture. Very easy!)

-1cup sour cream

-2/3 cup orange juice

What To Do:

After you cut up your apples and nectarines, squeeze the juice from 2 limes on top and mix well with your hands.

Add the rest of the fruit and carefully mix.

Blend all the ingredients in the cream cheese mixture with an electric mixer until it gets as smooth as possible. I mix the cream cheese and sour cream in the bowl, then add the other ingredients.

Pour the cream cheese mixture over the fruit and gently mix well. Easy and simple!

I like to wash my fruit with vinegar and water before I eat it.

  • Megan, Honestly it never lasts very long at our house.😂 It is devoured almost instantly. I would say about two days with cut up fruit, since the texture changes quickly when fruit is cut. With whole fruits like blueberries and grapes it would last longer.

  • No Bob, you do not have to prepare the pudding. Just pour the powder into the cream cheese mixture. Super easy!

  • Great Erika! Please let me know what you think of the recipe and how your guests like it.😊

  • Hi Pamela! This is a large serving bowl that I made the fruit salad in that is pictured. I would say about 10-15 people if you are serving with a meal. I have a family of 6 and its goes very fast, but my boys like to eat it by the bowl full. They are not always the best at eating by serving sizes. 😉

  • Looks fantastic and I apologize if I missed it but pudding, instant or cook. Assume instant but thought I’d ask. Thanks!!!

  • Hi Jan, I used the instant for this one , but it will not matter. Just a little less work with the instant.

  • Hello Pam, This recipe calls for instant pudding. Very easy and fast!👍🏻 Don’t apologize, thank you for reaching out!

  • Hi Sandra! I have updated the directions which are easier to understand.😊 I simply blend in the the sour cream with the cream cheese before I add any other ingredients. I hope you have a blessed day.

  • Can you clarify the amount of pudding mix needed for the recipe? This looks and sounds amazing and I am going to make it for breakfast Thanksgiving morning for my in-laws. I am having a little trouble reading the font. Is it FIVE 1 ounce mixes, or a single 5.1 ounce mix? Thanks! I can’t wait to try it!

  • Hi Lacie! It is one 5.1 ounce box. I am working on the font. Sorry you had trouble reading it. I appreciate you letting me know you had trouble so that I can make this blog better and more user friendly.
I sure hope your in-laws enjoy this recipe.😊 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  • Looks delicious….I’m going to make it for Thanksgiving. Is it best to make it the day of or can I make it the night before to save time?

  • Hi Judy! I sure hope that your fruit salad was a success today. If I make it with all fruit that I do not need to cut up, like grapes and blueberries, making it the night before works perfect. With the cut up fruit I prefer to put it in the day of.

  • Hi Vanessa! If you use whole fruits like grapes and berries it will last longer. Cut up fruit not too long, since fruit that is cut up tends to get soft and mushy. I never have the problem of needing it to keep long at my house, with my boys eating it up. 😉 When I make it for family and friend occasions it goes fast!

  • Yes, Suzanne! I love this recipe so much. It is easy, delicious, and always is a hit with my guests. You cant beat that! 🙂

  • I have been looking for this recipe for many years. I had this as a kid ( A very long time ago 😂) but had no idea what it was this is definitely it. Thank you so much for sharing. I cannot wait to make this for my kids and grand babies. Bless you and your family.

  • Hi Buffy! I am so glad that you found what you were looking for. This recipe is so yummy! Most recipes we come across today are from a long time ago. HA!
I hope that your kids and grand babies love this recipe as much as we do! 🙂 God Bless you all.

  • Any thought regarding what to use instead of orange juice? I never buy it because it gives me indigestion. 🙂
Another thought I had (living alone), is that I could make the “sauce” and store it by itself. Then just use it as a topping for a serving of fruits or berries. Thank you.

  • Thank you for reaching out Jay!
I was thinking that possibly apple juice would work good for you? It is not acidic like citrus juices.
Yes, that is a great idea to make the creamy topping and store it separately for individual servings! Great idea! 👍🏻

  • I’ve always wanted to make one of these! Does it need time in the fridge to ‘set’? Thank you!

  • Hi Bobbi,
I like to make it early enough to give it time to chill before the guests arrive. This is just a preference of mine. It does not need time to set though. Thanks for the question.

  • I live in England, I can’t find instant pudding. What would you suggest I use for a substitute? We have beautiful fruit all year.
I would love to find something like this to top it off with.
    Thanks!

  • Hi Leslie,
You can use a homemade pudding or any pudding that you need to cook. Just let it completely cool before adding it to the fruit. I would make the pudding the night before or hours before to give it time to chill in the refrigerator. Then I would add the chilled pudding into the fruit.
Happy making in England! Enjoy, Christina

  • Can you use sugar free pudding ? I have many Diabetic family members and fruit already has sweetness to it. Have you ever used with melons ? I was also wondering can you use white grape juice in place of orange juice to keep it white but low acid?

  • Hi Pam, Sorry that I missed your questions until now! I am sure that you already have tried this recipe but I am still going to answer your questions just incase you have not. You most definitely can use sugar free pudding. I have never tried with melons before. You can use the fruit that you like best to fit your taste. 🙂 Thank you for commenting on this blog page!
