Snowflake Peanut Butter Blossoms

Snowflake Peanut Butter Blossoms are fun to make!

Peanut butter cookies are one of my favorites and have been since I was a child.

They go perfectly with a tall glass of cold milk.

In the 19th century peanut butter was starting to become a cookie ingredient and the first recipe came out in 1902. They have been around for a long time!

One afternoon my kids and I were baking some peanut butter blossoms.  I was admiring the sparkle the sugar gave to each cookie and the idea of shaping them into snowflakes came to my mind.  After the holidays you can get a little down but these cookies you can make all winter long!  The snow really starts to fall in January and theses cookies fit in perfect with the snow. 😉

Kids find these cookies fun to eat as they bite off each snowflake tip and then finally reach to chocolate center!  My 5-year-old daughter was so excited when she saw they were in the shape of snowflakes! 🙂

You will need your favorite peanut butter blossom recipe.   I will list the recipe I used for this batch of cookies for your convenience. I used the recipe off the Betty Crocker website.

Ingredients you will need:

1/2 cup granulated sugar (I use raw natural sugar)

1 cup packed brown sugar  ( Many times I only use half of the sugar called for recipes.  Especially this one since you roll the cookie in sugar before baking and add a chocolate kiss.  It just depends how sweet you like your desserts. )

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1 cup butter or margarine, softened ( I only use real butter.)

2 eggs

3 cups Gold Medal all-purpose flour ( I used whole wheat flour.)

1 1/2  teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

Additional granulated Sugar

Hershey Kisses about 7 dozen

Parchment paper

Snowflake cookie cutter

Heat your oven at 375 degrees.

What you need to do:

Cream everything together with an electric mixer except for the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.  After the ingredients are creamed well then add them in.

Now, here is where the normal peanut butter blossom directions will change since you will not roll the dough into balls.  You will take some dough, the amount will depend on the size of your snowflake cookie cutter, and flatten on some parchment paper.  Take your cookie cutter and cut the dough into shape.  Take your snowflake dough shape and coat each side of the snowflake with granulated sugar. I carefully tossed mine with the sugar in a cereal bowl.  Place the sugar coated cookie on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet or pan and press a Hershey Kiss in the center.  You can wait to press your Hershey kiss in the cookie until they bake but I have found that they turn out the same either way.  Bake your cookies for 8-10 minutes or until edges are light brown.

I am delighted with the way these cookies turned out.  They are so pretty!
